Your Guide to Apartments in Savannah
There is a lot to be proud of your city when you live in a Savannah apartment. It is in Georgia's most eastern county, Chatham County, and is the first original state capitol of Georgia. Savannah has millions of visitors each year to see its rich history and southern architecture, while only around 130,000 people live here. In addition to funky nightlife and fabulous food, the city has everything a Savannah apartment-ite could want.
Being on a coastline makes Savannah a great place to play, with parasailing, jet skiing, kayaking and fishing charters readily available. Several colleges and universities offering bachelors, masters and professional doctorate degree programs are available to those seeking education, including Armstrong Atlantic State University, Savannah College of Art and Design, Savannah State University, and South University. Silk, indigo and cotton were the early formations of industry in Savannah, and the Port of Savannah on the Atlantic coast supported much of its early growth with commerce to and from England and Europe. Today, one of the city's largest employers is International Paper, with Gulfstream Aerospace, private jet producer and JCB, a huge producer of construction equipment following close behind, along with the Savannah Convention and Visitor's Bureau.
Some of the more interesting historical locations in Savannah include three places related to the founder of the Girl Scouts of America, Juliette Gordon Low. The home of her birth, one of the most visited house museums of Georgia, her home as a spouse to William Low, and the carriage house where the original Girl Scouts were headquartered. Other places of interest include one of the South's first public museums, Telfair Academy of Arts and Sciences; one of the oldest African American Baptist congregations in the United States, the First African Baptist Church; the third-oldest synagogue in America, Temple Mickve Israel; and the oldest standing antebellum rail facility in America, the Central of Georgia Railway roundhouse complex. Whether you are here to work, educate yourself, or just play, it's a great place to have a Savannah apartment!more...
